The Bodygaurd - The Musical Review

Review Written by Dan Maddox

I’ve never seen the original Bodyguard movie, and honestly, that makes this musical even better. With no comparisons to make, I could simply sit back and enjoy this spectacular stage production for what it is: an incredible show and a stunning tribute to the late, great Whitney Houston.

The story follows global superstar Rachel Marron, who finds herself the target of a mysterious stalker just as her career reaches new heights. To protect her, former Secret Service agent Frank Farmer is hired as her bodyguard. What begins as a professional arrangement soon turns into something far more complicated, as Rachel struggles to balance fame, fear, and unexpected love.

Sidonie Smith shone as Rachel Marron, delivering powerhouse vocals that had the audience in awe. She captured both the glamour and vulnerability of her character beautifully. Adam Garcia was equally impressive as Frank Farmer. He was charming, confident and effortlessly cool. The ladies (and even a few men!) in the audience were clearly swooning, and it’s easy to see why. He brought maturity, humour, and warmth to the role, creating the perfect balance with Smith’s fiery performance.

Sacha Monique was another standout as Rachel’s sister Nicki. Her voice was absolutely stunning! Rich and soulful with tones that were wonderfully reminiscent of Whitney herself. She could easily step into the lead role if ever needed. James-Lee Harris also deserves huge credit for his portrayal of the Stalker. His eerie, commanding presence added real tension and suspense to the story. And I have to give a big shoutout to young Cale Cole as Fletcher, Rachel’s son. His impressive dance moves and confident vocals made him a total crowd favourite. It’s clear he has a bright future ahead on the stage!

Packed with Whitney’s greatest hits including How Will I Know, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, and of course, I Will Always Love You, all performed with the energy of a live orchestra, The Bodyguard – The Musical is every Whitney fan’s dream come true.

It’s a thrilling, emotional and beautifully performed production that celebrates Whitney Houston’s legacy in the best possible way.

Verdict: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Bodyguard – The Musical is live at The Regent Theatre in Hanley until Saturday 8th November.
