Strange & rather disturbing things are happening during the night. Children are putting a tooth under the pillow in preparation for the tooth fairy, but are waking to find... a dead slug; a live spider; earwigs and other nasty items under their pillow. Evil is at work, but who is responsible? Could it be the Demon Dentist?
The dentist is a common phobia for some children and even some adults. This story plays on some of those fears and also works to dispel them a little. This delightfully dark story from comedian turned bestselling author David Walliams is certain to entertain families everywhere as it appears on stage!
Tony Ross's illustrations from the book are brought to life majestically and there's plenty of fast-paced action. The music and sound also really set the mood. When you hear music from any of these productions, you instantly know that it’s a David Walliams show in a similar way that any Tim Burton production can be distinguished from its score.
Sam Varlie is superb as Alfie, our young protagonist who is also a carer for his disabled dad (James Mitchell). He and his “girlfriend” Gabz (Georgia Grant-Anderson) team up to figure out the mystery behind Our Demonic Dentist Miss Root, portrayed fantastically by Emily Harrigan. Emily had a natural presence whenever she took to the stage, which is obviously important when you’re playing a demonic character. She owned it and had a brilliant voice to back up her talents. Definitely one to watch and I hope to see her in other productions in future.
My Verdict: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
