Plane Comedy & Port Vale Football Club have banged heads to host a fantastic new comedy night at Burslem’s Vale Park in the Mothertown of Stoke on Trent, and I was kindly invited to attend.
The brand is the brain child of award winning comedian Colin Manford, and award winning travel agent Lorraine Robinson, and Plane Comedy is what happens when their worlds collide.
As well as these live nights, you can also listen to their podcast!
MC Colin Manford is a North West based comedian, writer and actor/presenter that clearly likes to tell stories we’ve all experienced but from his own unique point of view. And let’s face it, you have to be extremely confident in your abilities to MC your own comedy evening! He has every right to be cocky too! It’s no holds barred, right from his failed relationships to his weird and wonderful family life and loads more! He’s a hugely engaging MC, able to connect with his audience quickly.
It also struck me how quick he was to react to comments from the audience! He was honestly one of the best MC’s I’ve ever seen, and set the tone for what would be a fun night.
Dave Twentyman was up first, and not only was his set hilarious, it transpired that he was performing after having a vasectomy on the SAME DAY! That takes balls…
Dawn Bailey was the second act, and if you like acts such as Jo Brand & Sarah Millican, you’ll just love Dawn! Straight to the point, no holds barred, rude & crude and unashamedly naughty.
Due to a schedule clash, headline act Daliso Chaponda wasn’t able to perform! However Britain’s Got Talent finalist, the hilarious
Steve Royle was there to fill the final spot, and he was absolutely superb, with everything you saw on Britain’s Got Talent and more! He engaged with the audience, showed a huge amount of wit in doing so, performed ventriloquism & juggling and brought the night to a close in fantastic fashion.
The music between acts was very aptly based on one of the Jokes that was told during the act before it which I thought was an extremely creative touch from the Valiant press officer and house DJ for the evening, Dan Townley.
The Valiant suite at Vale Park was a fantastic setting for the event, and the bar was reasonably priced too. Compared to other cities, Stoke doesn’t have an abundance of comedy evenings, and given that we’ve just come through a pandemic and with the financial pressures we’re all facing right now, there has never been a better time to rediscover those funny bones and enjoy a night of smiles & laughter.
Keep an eye on the pages below for more details on the next event! Tickets are priced at just £15 each and parking at Vale park is free of charge on the night.
Doors at the venue open at 7pm with the night kicking off from 8pm.
